Back to Land

A meditation on the sight of a blue whale beached on a California shore. After being hit by a boat, the whale’s enormous body landed on a small beach, becoming an attraction for masses of people who came from a far to see it. The film observes these curious onlookers and the nature of their looking. Shot on 16mm black and white film it is a poetic reflection on our fascination with nature as a spectacle – wonderous and desecrated at the same time.
