Angelica Lawson, Professor of Native American Studies at The University of Montana hosts a panel discussion on issues facing Native American filmmakers. Panel Discussion- Will Work For Art
Andrew Smith, filmmaker and Professor of Media Arts at The University of Montana will moderate this discussion on the art and commerce of non-fiction filmmaking. What makes a commercial success? How do filmmakers balance their artistic impulses with the demands of the market? Can art survive in the market place? Tough questions fielded by our even tougher panel. Confirmed panelists include Doug Pray (Art & Copy) and Curt Worden (One Fast Move or I'm Gone: Kerouac's Big Sur).

Live pitch session with Richard Saiz
In late 2009, Big Sky staff selected twenty filmmakers (from over fifty submissions) to participate in a live pitch session with Richard Saiz, Senior Program Manager at the Independent Television Service (ITVS). Filmmakers will have five minutes to pitch their projects. This will be followed by discussion and questions from Richard Saiz.

The Anatomy of a Scene with Doug Pray
Big Sky Retrospective Filmmaker Doug Pray will tear his film apart and put it back together. Pray will show clips and outtakes scenes from, Art & Copy, touring the audience through the process of creating the film – from the process(es) of shooting & editing and discussion of how material informed choices he made.

Workshop- Open Call
Richard Saiz will present an informative workshop on the Open Call proposal process for ITVS. Saiz will walk participants through the dos & don'ts of writing a compelling proposal, and discuss in detail the process of applying for funding from ITVS. The workshop will feature clips of successfully funded docs and Saiz will also be provide valuable handouts.
