The Big Sky Documentary Film Festival’s explosive 14-year transformation from a small-scale labor of love to the largest documentary film festival in the American West is the result of three principal factors: talent, timing and community. The first two—an unflinching creative vision coupled with burgeoning demand for top-quality non-fiction film—laid the groundwork for BSDFF’s meteoric rise. But it is the third factor—the festival’s deep connection with the local and global community of filmmakers, filmgoers and sponsors—that makes it all happen.
